Responsible drinking
Muddlo is a cocktail and mocktail recipe platform created to help adults discover drinks, explore ingredients and prepare recipes at home. We believe that alcoholic drinks should be enjoyed responsibly, in moderation and only where their purchase and consumption are legal.
Muddlo does not sell or supply alcohol. The recipes and information available on this website are provided for informational and entertainment purposes only.
For Adults Only
Muddlo is intended exclusively for people who are at least 18 years old.
By accessing alcohol-related content on Muddlo, you confirm that you meet the legal drinking age applicable in your country or place of residence. In some countries, the legal drinking age may be higher than 18. You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you.
The age confirmation displayed on Muddlo is based on your declaration. It is not a formal identity or age-verification process.
Alcohol should never be purchased, prepared or provided for minors.
Drink in Moderation
Alcohol affects every person differently. Its effects may depend on factors such as:
- body weight and metabolism;
- age and biological characteristics;
- how quickly alcohol is consumed;
- whether food has been eaten;
- medication use;
- physical and mental health;
- the strength and serving size of the drink.
Cocktail recipes can contain more than one standard serving of alcohol, particularly when they include several spirits or liqueurs.
Drink slowly, take breaks and consider alternating alcoholic drinks with water or non-alcoholic beverages. Eating before and while drinking may slow the absorption of alcohol, but it does not prevent intoxication.
Do not feel pressured to drink or to finish a drink. Choosing a mocktail, reducing the amount of alcohol in a recipe or deciding not to drink at all is always a valid choice.
Understand Serving Sizes
The amount of alcohol in a drink depends on the quantity and strength of the ingredients used.
A cocktail served in one glass may contain more alcohol than a standard serving. Glass size, free-pouring, substitutions and inaccurate measurements can significantly change the final alcohol content.
Measurements and serving calculations displayed on Muddlo are approximate and may include rounding. Always measure alcoholic ingredients carefully rather than pouring them without a measuring tool.
Never assume that a sweet, fruity or mild-tasting drink contains only a small amount of alcohol. Sugar, juice, syrups and other ingredients can make the taste of alcohol less noticeable without reducing its effects.
Never Drink and Drive
Never drive after consuming alcohol.
Alcohol can reduce reaction time, concentration, coordination and judgement even when you do not feel drunk. Coffee, cold showers, food and fresh air do not quickly remove alcohol from the body.
Do not operate machinery, cycle in traffic, use dangerous tools or take part in activities requiring full attention after drinking.
Plan your journey before you begin drinking. Use public transport, a taxi, a designated sober driver or stay overnight in a safe place.
When in doubt, do not drive.
Alcohol and Health
Alcohol consumption involves health risks. No recipe or information published on Muddlo should be interpreted as medical, nutritional or health advice.
Some people should avoid alcohol entirely, including people who:
- are pregnant, may be pregnant or are trying to become pregnant;
- are under the legal drinking age;
- are driving or operating machinery;
- take medication that may interact with alcohol;
- have certain medical or mental health conditions;
- have been advised by a healthcare professional not to drink;
- have difficulty controlling their alcohol consumption;
- are recovering from alcohol dependence.
Alcohol can interact with prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines and other substances. Read medication information carefully and consult a doctor or pharmacist when necessary.
If you have any concerns about whether alcohol is safe for you, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
Avoid Dangerous Drinking
Do not use Muddlo recipes for drinking games, forced drinking, speed-drinking competitions or any activity designed to encourage rapid or excessive alcohol consumption.
Never pressure another person to drink.
Be aware of the signs that someone may have consumed too much alcohol, such as:
- confusion or inability to communicate clearly;
- vomiting repeatedly;
- difficulty remaining conscious;
- slow, irregular or difficult breathing;
- seizures;
- pale, cold or bluish skin;
- loss of consciousness.
A person who is unconscious or severely intoxicated should not be left alone. Contact emergency services immediately if you suspect alcohol poisoning or another medical emergency.
Do not assume that someone can simply “sleep it off”. Their condition may continue to worsen after they stop drinking.
Do Not Mix Alcohol with Other Substances
Mixing alcohol with medication, recreational drugs, sedatives, stimulants or other substances may cause unpredictable and dangerous effects.
Caffeinated drinks may make a person feel more alert without reducing their level of intoxication. Feeling less tired does not mean that it is safe to drink more or drive.
Always check whether a medicine can be combined with alcohol. When information is unclear, ask a doctor or pharmacist.
Respect Other People
Responsible drinking also means respecting the choices, safety and boundaries of other people.
Never:
- pressure someone to drink;
- secretly add alcohol to another person’s drink;
- misrepresent the amount of alcohol in a drink;
- serve alcohol to someone who is already severely intoxicated;
- serve alcohol to a minor;
- take advantage of someone whose judgement is impaired;
- leave an intoxicated person in an unsafe situation.
Consent must be freely given and can be withdrawn at any time. A person who is severely intoxicated may not be capable of providing valid consent.
Keep an eye on your drink and do not accept a drink when you are unsure what it contains or who prepared it.
Hosting Responsibly
When preparing drinks for guests:
- provide alcohol-free options;
- offer water and food;
- measure ingredients accurately;
- clearly identify drinks containing alcohol;
- ask about allergies and dietary restrictions;
- avoid pressuring guests to drink;
- stop serving alcohol to anyone who appears severely intoxicated;
- help guests arrange safe transport home.
Keep alcoholic drinks and ingredients away from children and store them securely.
Remember that the person preparing or serving a drink has a responsibility to be honest about its ingredients and alcohol content.
Allergies and Ingredients
Cocktails and mocktails may contain common allergens, including dairy products, eggs, nuts, sulphites and ingredients containing gluten.
Recipes submitted by users may contain incomplete, inaccurate or outdated ingredient information. Product composition can also vary between brands and countries.
Always read product labels and verify that every ingredient is suitable for you and your guests.
If you have a serious allergy or intolerance, do not rely solely on the recipe information available on Muddlo.
Mocktails and Alcohol-Free Alternatives
Not drinking alcohol does not mean missing out on flavour or presentation.
Muddlo includes mocktails and other alcohol-free recipes that may be suitable for drivers, people who do not drink alcohol and anyone who wants a lighter option.
However, products described as “alcohol-free” or “non-alcoholic” may still contain a small amount of alcohol depending on the product and local labelling rules. Check the label when complete avoidance of alcohol is important.
Alcoholic ingredients should not simply be removed from a recipe without considering flavour balance, volume and safety. Use an appropriate alcohol-free substitute where possible.
Know When to Stop
Stop drinking if you feel unwell, dizzy, confused, unusually tired or unable to control your behaviour.
Do not continue drinking simply because ingredients remain, a drink has already been prepared or other people are drinking.
Regularly drinking more than intended, hiding alcohol use, experiencing memory loss or allowing drinking to affect work, health or relationships may indicate that it is time to seek support.
Speaking to a doctor, counsellor or local alcohol-support organisation can be an important first step.
